Orthopaedic surgeon not qualified to tell you to eat less sugar

Launceston doctor Gary Fettke who treats too many Tasmanians with diabetes and obesity related conditions, has been gagged by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), ordering him not to recommend dietary changes to his patients, even though a healthier diet would be beneficial to their conditions.

“If I’ve got a patient whose got unstable diabetes in hospital, with an out of control infection, and their blood sugars are all over the place, and they’ve got a can of soft drink in front of them, theoretically, I’m not allowed to advise them not to have that,” Dr. Fettke says.

Tasmania Talks listeners took to the phones in reaction to the lifetime ban ordered on Dr. Fettke.
