Tasmania Police have seized $250,000 dollars worth of ecstasy as part of a national operation.
Two packages which made up most of the quarter of a million dollar figure were found in the post enroute to Hobart.
The operation was part of ‘Viterus Week of Action 2018’.
It involved more than 25 Police Officers from across the state and resulted in a number of arrests and the seizures of drugs, firearms and cash.
Officers also used high tech scanners and drug detection dogs to screen packages at postal centres as well as passengers on the Spirit of Tasmania.
This lead to a number of charges being laid, ranging from selling a controlled substance, drug diversion and driving with an illicit substance.
Detective inspector Colin Riley from the Southern Drug Investigation Services said these types of operations will be ongoing.
“Tasmania Police works collaboratively with our partner agencies and cross-jurisdiction operations like we’ve seen in the past week further disrupt the activities of criminals and those involved in the manufacture and distribution of methylamphetamine and other drugs in our community,” Said Inspector Riley.
