Speed demons sprung

A three hour Tasmania Police sting on the Bass Highway near Penguin's netted 18 people doing over the 110 kilometre an hour speed limit.

Among them was a 51 year old motorbike rider from Ulverstone caught doing 165 km/h, with a pillion passenger on board in wet conditions.

His bike was seized.

In two other cases, a driver was caught doing more than 50 km/h over the limit in Hobart, while another was clocked on the Midland Highway almost 40 km/h too fast.

Both copped hefty fines and demerit points.
