A Deloraine man who shot a child in the head will have to serve at least half his sentence before the chance of parole.
Nathan Richard Campbell had pleaded not guilty to grievous bodily harm on Phoenix Newitt, after firing a 22 rifle at a car containing the 11-year-old on Stagg Court.
But the 26-year-old's argument that he never intended to hit anyone and was simply firing a warning shot failed to sway the Launceston jury, which found him guilty last week.
The Supreme Court was told he'd fired the weapon after his fiancee was involved in a fight with a woman at a local supermarket.
Campbell has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years prison.
