A colleague of the late East Coast Councillor Michael Kent has paid tribute after he died following a long battle with cancer.
The former Glamorgan Spring Bay Mayor led the push to reform shop trading hours in Tasmania. Current Mayor Debbie Wisby says that was something which he was very proud of.
"I think that would be one of his major items and he told me about that story on multiple occasions and he was very proud of that and very passionate about it."
Mayor Wisby says he will be missed by the community.
"Michael had a presence about him, he was well known and well respected and he will be missed by everyone."
"We go quite a way back, about 11 years. I've lived next door to Michael and we'd share meals and have a coffee and a laugh so there was the business side of Michael that I knew and then there was the personal, funny moments that we had," she says.
Mr Kent was also known for driving the campaign to secure a Tasmanian team in the Australian Football League.
