Former Labor MP Madeleine Ogilvie will contest the upper house seat of Nelson in the May polls.
The barrister and solicitor said she'll run as an independent, calling for strategic infrastructure investment and a proper solution to Hobart's rental crisis.
Ms Ogilvie clashed with Labor's left faction after voting against a Greens motion in support of same-sex marriage, and later voted against euthanasia at Labor's 2017 conference.
Labor’s Josh Willie has commented on the news.
“I think Madeline will run a good campaign, she’s an experienced politician. We know that when there are vacancies in the upper house history shows that there is a long list of candidates that put their hands up. I wish Madeline all the best.”
