Weather warning

Tasmania's brief flirtation with almost spring-like conditions has crashed out, as a howling cold snap takes over.

Snow and ice has descended over elevated areas and a severe weather warning is in place for damaging winds tomorrow afternoon.

The thirsty east of the state will unfortunately miss out on the majority of the rain, whereas the west, south and south-east are expecting a fair dumping.

About 50mm of rain is expected on the West Coast alone, and there's flood warnings for the Huon River.

Snow has been down to around 400 metres this morning, rising back up to 700 metres by this evening.

Wind gusts around 70km/h are expected in most parts tomorrow, and even more ferocious in high altitude areas.
