Man pleads not guilty to escape charges

Courts Burnie 20151009 002

A man who allegedly fled Burnie's Police Station last month and then tried to leave the state has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to the alleged incident.

26-year-old Braydon William Stanley pleaded not guilty via videolink in the Burnie Magistrates Court to charges of escape, motor vehicle stealing, negligent driving and driving without a licence.

Police allege that after Stanley fled the police station on September 23, he stole a car which he drove to Upper Burnie before dumping it nearby.

Stanley was arrested on September 26 at the Spirit of Tasmania terminal, police say he was trying to flee the state.

He will return to court for hearing on December 17.
