A research centre in Launceston has received a multimillion dollar boost.
Tasmania's Blue Economy Co-Operative Research Centre, based at the University of Tasmania's Newnham campus, has been awarded $70 million dollars from the Federal Government to fund aquaculture and renewable energy research projects over the next decade.
The funding will support 100 post-graduate researchers across five areas including offshore engineering, renewable energy and sustainable seafood products.
In a bid to expand on the state's renewable energy capabilities, it's hoped the decade-long collaboration will generate up to $300 million dollars worth of equipment and resources.
The Blue Economy CRC is expected to officially open early next year.
