Elective surgery list blow-out

A familiar dance to the tune of the health system has been performed in Tasmania's parliament.

It begins with Labor leader Rebecca White presenting an incriminating anecdote about deficiencies, today it was the elective surgery waiting list blowing out to nearly 11,000 at the end of October.

Then it ends with Premier Hodgman denying budget cuts are to blame.

"An unprecedented demand in our hospital system and in elective surgery, that's why we are responding with what is a significant investment, $8.1 billion into our health system which takes spending of a percentage of our our budget up to 32%, around the highest in the nation."
