Another School Strike 4 Climate has descended upon Parliament Lawns in Hobart.
Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds, Federal Independent MP Andrew Wilkie and State Greens Leader Cassy O'Connor were among the keynote speakers.
It's the third major event of its kind this year, but today's rally was in response to recent devastating bushfires around Australia.
Student activists across the country walked out of school and staged sit-downs outside the offices of politicians and fossil fuel companies.
“It’s great to see the School Strike 4 Climate cooperating with the Grandparents for Climate Action,” Mr Wilkie said to the crowd in Hobart.
“The consequences of inaction are so severe that dealing with the climate emergency should be the Federal Government’s first priority."
“We need leadership and a national response to address climate change right now. Australia must be put on the fastest possible pathway to zero-net carbon emissions, starting with the phasing out of carbon-derived energy and a move to 100 per cent reliance on renewable energy," he added.
