ATV crash leaves man in serious condition

Safety surrounding quad bikes has again been thrust into the spotlight, after a shocking crash in Tasmania's northwest left a person in a serious condition.

It's understood two all-terrain vehicles collided on Blythe Road in Upper Natone at around 6:30 yesterday morning, throwing a rider from the bike.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the scene and airlifted the man in his 20s to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains today.

It comes after a recent review of quad bike safety made several recommendations - including mandatory roll protection bars - following a spate of ATV tragedies.

Burnie Police wants any witnesses or anyone who can provide more information on the accident to get in touch.
