Police response times blow out

Police in Tasmania's major population areas are taking longer to show up to high level callouts.

In the latest Corporate Performance Report, in November 2019 in the year to date officers in the south were found to take 27 minutes to attend serious urban jobs, 8 minutes longer than the previous year.

For the north, response times grew to 31 minutes from just 17 a year earlier.

Western division was only up by 1 minute to 20.

The Police Association suspects sick leave could be affecting resources as officers battle burnout.

Labor is suggesting the situation will worsen because the Government keeps slashing police budgets.

The government insists it has rebuilt police officer numbers after Labor cut the ranks when it was in power.
