A siege in the state's north-west has tragically ended with the death of man from self-inflicted burns.
Reports of threats being made at the property on Bells Parade in Somerset meant police were dispatched to the scene at around 11am yesterday, finding the 45-year-old had barricaded himself inside.
Officers attempted to negotiate but after 35 minutes, he exited the building and set himself on fire in front of emergency workers.
The male was rushed by paramedics to the North West Regional Hospital with critical injuries, where he later died.
Western District Commander Debbie Williams said the man was known to police and was subject to a family violence order.
An investigation is underway as well as a full Professional Standards probe.
