Speedster coasters busted

Police local

Two leadfoots are in serious hot water after being caught well over the speed limit on the northwest coast's Ridgeley Highway this month.

A 45-year-old Burnie man who tested positive to drugs has had his car clamped indefinitely after being clocked at 159 kilometres an hour, while a 43-year-old man from Waratah was doing 155 kilometres an hour.

Meantime, the ABC's reporting 52 vehicles have been towed off Hobart's arterial roads since new clearways came into effect in October.

While there's no fine, drivers face a $380 fee to recover their cars from the tower.
