A recruitment drive is starting on Monday to add 30 extra firefighters to Tasmania's ranks.
The net is being cast beyond locals, with current interstate professionals thought likely to find relocation to Tasmania attractive.
Tasmania Fire Service Chief Chris Arnol is keen for the makeup of the firefighting force to evolve.
"We'd like to encourage more women to join the fire service, we haven't got any targets, but out of the 334 firefighters we have, we only have 13 women, so we'd like to improve that balance."
He has referred to successful career transitions by recent TFS recruits including a hair dresser, a professional sailor, nurse, chef and tradies.
