A 44 year old Brighton man has been charged with child exploitation after Tasmania Police executed a search warrant at a Brighton property today (Wednesday).
The Tasmanian Joint Anti Child exploitation Team (JACET) arrested the man with allegations of him attempting to groom a teenage female in a chat application, along with accessing, possessing and distributing of child exploitation material.
He was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates court at a later date.
Detective Acting Inspector Nikala Parsons said “this arrest is another example of the Tasmanian JACET’s commitment to combating the sexual exploitation of children and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.”
“Tasmania Police will continue to work collaboratively with our partners here in Australia and overseas to target producers and distributors of child abuse material, who are contributing to an abhorrent industry harming the most vulnerable in our communities.
“It is important that parents and children are aware of the dangers of online chat applications which provide users with apparent anonymity, and remember to only chat with users who are known to them”.
Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child exploitation are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 – this can be done anonymously.
