A top ranking member of the Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Gang is facing drug trafficking charges.

The 55-year-old Claremont man has been charged in relation to the alleged trafficking of more than half a kilogram of methylamphetamine and 83 grams of cocaine, which was intercepted on the Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport last December.

He was arrested this morning after a joint operation between Tasmania Police’s Serious Organised Crime Division and the Australian Federal Police National Anti-Gangs Squad.

Police say at the time of the alleged offence, the man was the President of the Hobart Chapter of the Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

“This arrest follows on from the large-scale police operation conducted at Dover on 10 June 2020,” said Detective Acting Inspector Nikala Parsons.

“Seven people have now been charged in connection with this seizure.”

“The disruption of these organised criminal entities within Tasmania will continue through the collaborative efforts of our partnership agencies, such as the National Anti-Gangs Squad,” she said.
