Tasmania's prison expansion in the south is reportedly on schedule.
Corrections Minister Elise Archer has expressed satisfaction that despite challenges presented by the pandemic, construction work on the Southern Remand Centre is proceeding on time.
The aim is for the $70 million facility to open late next year and inject 150 new beds into a jail system which is frequently overcrowded.
130 claimed jobs are connected to the centre's construction with 50 ongoing positions once operating.
Construction of a $270 million northern prison is to proceed near Westbury, amid some fierce local opposition.
