Wilmot shines on national stage

Mt Roland Tasmania Australia

A northwest Tasmanian town is kicking goals on the national stage.

Wilmot last year was recognised as Tasmania's tidiest town, giving it automatic entry into this year's national Keep Australia Beautiful awards.

On Wednesday night, the hamlet took out the Community Health, Wellbeing and Interest category, pipped by Beechworth in Victoria for the top gong.

Tidy Towns judge Gail Langley has noted the enormous respect of Wilmot locals for their unique environment, ancestry and each others' well being.

“Promoting a healthy lifestyle and caring for others is the core of what ‘drives’ the Wilmot community – it just seems to happen naturally!”

“The people of Wilmot have taken a serious approach to the needs of those in their midst and have created a strong, vibrant, extremely liveable community.”

Kentish Mayor Tim Wilson said, “this award recognises the hard work of the Wilmot community in promoting local culture and heritage, community participation, and shines a light on the importance of our local, regional communities.”
