A man has been arrested, accused of a burglary at a well known Burnie jewellery store.

Police allege the 20-year-old smashed a glass door to gain entry to Dean Walker Designs at Wilmot Street.

He's accused of breaking several display cabinets, before fleeing on foot with $40,000 worth of items.

The alleged offender was tracked down to an address yesterday afternoon and was arrested without incident.

He was held in custody pending the outcome of an out of hours court hearing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Burnie Police on 131 444.
