A northwest Tasmanian man is dead after a trail bike crash on the state's West Coast on Sunday.
Police say the man in his 30s was riding with a group on Ocean Beach south of Trial Harbour when the other members of his party noticed he didn't make it to their rendezvous.
They found him semi-conscious on the beach and raised the alarm at around 3 pm on Sunday.
“Initial investigations have determined the man was riding a trail bike north on Ocean Beach when it appears he has struck a buried log," said Senior Sergeant Adam Spencer of West Coast Police.
"The bike remained upright for some distance afterward, but eventually it did come to rest on its side. The man was found semi-conscious with his bike a very short time later.”
Despite the best efforts of his companions and paramedics the man died at the scene.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
