If you've noticed empty shopfronts filling up in Launceston's CBD - you're not alone.

Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten says pre-COVID, 25 per cent of shops were vacant - and that number now sits at just 7 per cent.

Mr van Zetten estimates around $53 million worth of investment into the area has been approved in the last year by council - with the flow on effect set to continue for years to come.

Multiple new stores, includng Glazed and Confused in the Quadrant Mall and Midas Shoes in Charles Street, have opened in recent weeks - while progress continues on renovations in the Brisbane Street Mall for a Cotton On mega store.
