Fire crews kept busy in Launceston overnight


It was a close call at the Newstead Coles Express service station last night - with firefighters called to the location at Hoblers Bridge Road shortly aftter 8pm.

Upon arrival, a spokesperson said they discovered the source of concern was toilet paper rolls that had been lit alight.

No damage was caused.

Meanwhile, the quick thinking of occupants of a Ravenswood unit has saved the house from significant damage.

Crews were called to the address at Warring Street after a small fire in the bedroom - a spokesperson saying it started behind the bed head.

The occupants, who were at home at the time, worked quickly to distinguish it in its early stages.

Fire and police investigators are now working to detemine the cause of the blaze.

Police say around $3,000 worth of damage was caused.
