Labor's Brian Mitchell has narrowly retained the federal Tasmanian seat of Lyons.
A preference count error at the Launceston pre-polling centre was corrected on Thursday and increased his lead over Liberal Susie Bower to 784 votes.
It's an advantage most election analysts say is now insurmountable.
The incumbent survived a seven percent swing against him towards Ms Bower, reflecting similar swings towards the Liberals in other key Tasmanian electorates Bass and Braddon.
The victory gives the ALP 75 MPs in the House of Representatives, needing just one more to form majority government as expected.
Mr Mitchell says he'll keep celebrations on hold until more postal votes come in on Friday.
