Many local councils are being forced to increase their rates because of a lack of dividend from TasWater, among other things.

Meander Valley Council is one such council, and Mayor Craig Perkins says that whilst the TasWater dividend is just one thing giving the council budget grief, they stand to lose $278,000 from the dividend alone.

Mayor Perkins speaks with Brian Carlton about the reasons councils are considering potential rate increases, and other council issues such as waste management.
