A North-West waste group is calling for tougher penalties for the illegal dumping of rubbish in rural and bushland areas.

The Cradle Coast Management Waste Group (CCMWG) has launched a campaign to stop the illegal dumping of waste, which includes monitoring known dumping hot spots and making it easier for people to go to the tip, via free vouchers through local councils.

Deputy Chair of the CCMWG, Rowan Sharman, speaks with Brian Carlton about the measures being taken to curb illegal rubbish dumping, and says that legislation needs to be changed to impose harsher penalties on people who deliberately dump rubbish.
