A Yolla farmer has been left with 50 tonnes of potatoes that won’t be accepted by major supermarkets, because they won’t ‘wash clean.
Brett Neal delivered a bag of Nicola potatoes to Brian Carlton last week, which cooked up beautifully. Brett says that because of a few brown spots and skin blemishes on the same potatoes, they have been rejected.
These beautiful potatoes were given to me by Yolla (Tas) farmer Brett Neil. They have been rejected by the supermarkets because they don’t “wash clean”. He has 50 tonnes of them. I’m speechless #politas #auspol #waste pic.twitter.com/nMbBxA9Q8K— Brian Carlton (@Spoonyman) September 21, 2018
Brett joins Brian this morning to talk about the potatoes, and the issues with supermarkets not accepting ‘imperfect’ produce.
