The first week of summer is here, and it’s bringing great weather with it.

With 1 in 17 Tasmanians owning a boat, there’s a fair chance many people will take advantage of the weather and spend it out on the water.

However, Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) are urging people to take care and check all necessary precautions, including servicing life jackets, checking weather conditions at home, and remembering there is no such thing as a cheap boat.

Peter Hopkins, General Manager of Recreational Boating at MAST, talks to Brian Carlton this morning about some of key safety tips people should heed on the water this summer.
