Tasmania is finally set to introduce a container deposit scheme, which is expected to be rolled out by 2022.
Tasmania and Victoria are the only two states in Australia without a scheme in place, and Minister for the Environment, Elise Archer, says that NSW sees the return of 30 million containers a week due to the success of the program.
Ms Archer talks with Brian Carlton this morning about the decision to implement the scheme and how it will work.
They also discuss the idea of a ‘burial tax’, under Ms Archer’s role as Attorney-General. Ms Archer says she would ‘call for calm’ on the topic, and says that there is nothing in the Burial and Cremations Amendment Bill 2018 that would see burial fees increase.
