Hopes that Longford sewage plant upgrade will fix ‘Longford pong’

Tags: community North

In 18 months to two years’ time, it is hoped that the ‘Longford pong’ will be no more.

Residents have been complaining about the smell that lingers over the town for some time, particularly in summer. The smell is thought to be a combination of the Longford sewage treatment plant, and the JBS meatworks facility.

Today TasWater has announced plans to upgrade the sewage treatment plant, which is hoped will reduce the odours around the town.

Mary Knowles, Mayor of Northern Midlands Council, talks to Rick Fontyn about these plans and whether they will fix the pong.
