Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Gary Fettke says he is 'absolutely in favour' of added sugar labels.
The federal government is looking at introducing the labels on food and beverages. The labels would let consumers know how many teaspoons of added sugar are in the product – for example, there are 16 teaspoons of sugar in a 600ml bottle of coke.
Dr Fettke was cautioned in 2016 by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for giving dietary advice to his patients, including advice on cutting their sugar intake.
Dr Gary Fettke speaks to Brian Carlton this morning and says that this is a major step forward in our fight against obesity.
